MORE NEWS---A "NEW" OLD POWER HAMMER FOR THE FORGE
It just keeps getting better and better (for me). With the new forge, I also purchased a completeley refurbished 25 pound Little Giant Power Hammer. It has been secured into my floor and works great---the key to it, they say, is to keep it oiled and greased---the oil is flying. The hammer is serial #: 595. It was made in 1911!! The really cool thing is you can call Little Giant and they can tell you the original owner. They sent me a copy of the page from their sales leger. It was sold on 2/16/11 to Tolstoy Grain & Import Co in Onaka, S.D. (today the population is about 14).
I'm learning to use it. I got it to primarily help in making integrals (mainly use 7/8" or 1" round bar) and to hopefully allow me to keep making knives for a long time--have some problems with my shoulders from my car accident.
